Notions and snapshots that shape our day to day.

Rachael: “My little sister, Lauren Johnson’s, invitation is my favorite from this past year. We were able to surprise her with each of her stationery pieces, making the process so fun and exciting! The color palate was different than the norm: deep grey, deep purple, and a pop of orange. I explored a new format for this special project, creating an invitation booklet with all the weekend information in one piece. The cover crest was foil stamped into the deep grey paper, and we were able to incorporate this crest throughout her wedding day stationery. The reply card tucked nicely into one panel of the invite—I love how concise this is! Even the stamps were a nice touch, wildflowers with pops of color, reminiscent of a summer in Colorado.”

As we are preparing for a full and wonderful 2014, we are looking back to our favorite wedding invitations and save the dates from 2013. We have had the opportunity to work with awesome clients, who have allowed us to design invitations with new formats, new printing styles, new fonts, new drawings. Here is the beginning of our favorites list!

Amanda Claire: “The above invitation is my favorite from the year. I felt like the bride and I had a similar style, so working on her set was so fun for me! Her set was simple, one color letterpress in antique gold on a pearl white paper. We used Elizabeth Porcher Jones‘ calligraphy and created a monogram on her invitation card and envelope. All of the floral accents are hand-drawn and add such uniqueness to the set. I also loved how her wedding menu, program, and signage evolved. Above is a shot of the bride’s simple program, that incorporated more of her hand-drawn florals!”

A few years ago, I created the above map of St. John for the destination wedding of our friend Ellen Robinson of WED. Ever since, I’ve wanted to go to the island and experience everything Ellen and her husband love about that place. That time came this past February. All the Johnson side of my family packed up and flew to the islands for a week and a half of beach, snorkeling, pool time, and relaxation. As you can see, the kids loved the sun, crystal blue water, and spending time with their cousins. For me, the time off was much needed and much appreciated…it took place of that maternity leave with the above one-year-old I missed last spring! Now back from the beach and into spring wedding season!

Thank You

January 2, 2013 in Holiday

Post-holiday, we realize how much we have to be thankful for. In our opinion, a thank-you note is never uncalled for and never too late. Here are some of our favorite accessories to writing the perfect thank-you:

1) Le Pen pens. Our favorite writing utensils available in all sorts of colors. Available at Artist and Craftsman on Calhoun.

2) Vintage Stamps. They simply make mail that much more exciting! We recently ordered some from Etsy shop Verde Studio.

3) Personalized Stationery by Studio R. Order some pretty papers and colored envelopes to ring in a new year!

4) Twine. Wrap up your card with a photo in colored twine. Available on Cannon Street at Mac & Murphy.
