We were so excited to see Lauren and Robby’s gorgeous wedding, designed by the gals at Loluma, featured on the Smitten blog Valentine’s Day.  Everything about this wedding was stunning and we were thrilled to work with Lauren and her mom on some very noteworthy wedding stationery.  A great snippet of the welcome packets were featured, but you can see more from this beautiful affair by visiting the Smitten Blog.  Thanks Ladies!

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we thought we would take a moment to give some love to our favorite calligrapher, Elizabeth Porcher Jones.  Elizabeth is SO incredibly talented, a true master of the art of calligraphy.  My friends, we keep her quite busy as her talent is in high demand with Studio R brides.  Her “John Hancock” is seen everywhere from save the dates and invitations, programs and welcome packets, cocktails napkins and linens, and everything in between.  In fact, when it came time for my wedding, I enlisted her from the very beginning to create special stationery for me, too!  We just love, love, love her and couldn’t wait to showcase a few of her special stationery pieces for Studio R.  Much love EPJ!

Monday, Studio R was featured on The Wedding Row for a fantastic giveaway featuring 100 free save the dates!  The winning lucky couple, will get to choose from the six postcard designs below, and Studio R will customize it with your event details, wedding theme and colors.  To enter, all you have to do is “like” Studio R on Facebook and leave a comment on our Facebook page telling us which design you like best and when you got engaged!  Entries are open until 8:00 pm EST on Friday, January 27, 2011.  Studio R will then choose a comment at random and make arrangements with you to get your save the date cards in progress.  If you don’t know the details of your event yet, no problem! Happy Thursday friends!  I am back from Turks and Caicos and happy to report that Mendi and Adam’s wedding was perfect.  The bride was stunning, the groom, very handsome, the food, especially the lobster, was delicious and the weather was just what every bride dreams it would be on their special day, amazing!  As soon as pictures surface, I will be sure to post some for you.

Back at work, we have been busy bees fielding inquiries, meeting with newly engaged brides, working on spring/summer wedding invitations and fall save the dates.  We have some fun new designs in the works and cannot wait to share them with you.  Rachael especially has been hard at work painting wedding venue scenes for new brides Christin and Corey.  From the Ocean Course at Kiawah to the Hope Town Lighthouse in the Bahamas, these illustrations give wedding guests a sneak peak into their big day.

Recently, we have also used photo rendering techniques to set the tone for our September bride, Jennifer.  Her wedding was held at the breathtaking Swan House in Atlanta, Georgia.  Jennifer’s colors were gray and white with a touch of green.  The black and white rendering of the Swan House, mixed with the elegant calligraphy by Elizabeth Porcher Jones, was perfect for a deckled edge save the date to introduce her wedding guests to this grand location.

Don’t be jealous, but I am off to Turks and Caicos bright and early tomorrow morning for my best friend’s wedding!  I am over the top excited because this is my first tropical destination wedding, and given the cool weather pouring into Charleston this weekend, I can’t wait for some warm sunshine.  Sweet Mendi is the last of our Charlotte seven to tie the knot, and I was thrilled to get the phone call from her this July that she was engaged.  When they solidified a spot on the beach in beautiful Turks and Caicos, Rachael and I got to work on the perfect invitation to set the tone for their spectacular island affair.  Among many of Mendi’s talents, is her ability to make watercolor magic!  So, I begged her to put her skills to use and draw a scene that reminded her of the place where she would get married.  When the artwork arrived, we took it from there, incorporating ocean colors in the folder and backing layer, a playful modern pattern and a basket weave band.  The result was pure bliss!  Doesn’t it make you want to go?  I can’t wait to share the photos with you from this wedding when I return!  Have a great weekend! – allison

I love the post from Lexi, Kris and Lisa on day 3 of clinic!  ”Wow! Today was an amazing day for PMI! We turned a dusty, old, dirt floor church into an efficient, well-oiled clinic that shattered a PMI record by seeing 412 patients! Not only did we heal Ugandans medically but touched souls as well. We went to a site, Bweyale, that is located near a Sudanese refugee camp. We were told the need would be really great there…boy, were we not disappointed. While some of the team registered patients, others made benches out of blocks and boards. An entire clinic was set up in a one room church! The registration line was filled with lots of people needing specialized medical care, including a women that could not walk and crawled her way to our clinic and a young girl who’s heart you could visibly see beating out of her chest (she was a former patient of the clinic). We saw over 100 people more than anticipated. It was heartwarming to see the providers praying with their patients and providing spiritual support as well as medical interventions. We can look back and laugh at the duck-duck-goose game with the armed guards and 50+ children, the memories of the smiles of the patients that could finally see after glasses were given, and the joy we felt when a grandmother kneeled in thanks after seeing her granddaughter fitted for shoes. The day ended with cheering and tears as we watched the woman who crawled into the clinic wheel herself away in a wheelchair.”

After 5 very successful clinic days working every where from glasses, to pharmacy, to with my dear friend Reames, a provider, and finally serving as a runner between the providers and the pharmacist, we were able to see over 1600 patients in various parts of Uganda.  A PMI record!  The last full day and night, we traveled to Murchison Falls National Park where we spent one night at a safari lodge and even went on our very own safari!  I have included a few of Lexi’s amazing photos of just a few of the animals we saw on the safari.

This truly was a journey of a life time; waking up only ten days prior to the unknown, and now not being able to imagine my life without this experience.  Flash forward a few weeks later, and I can’t stop looking at the photos as daily reminders of the awesome opportunity to serve others anyway I could.  As my new friend Rachel, from the trip says, “seeing the smiles, the faces of hope and love makes me want to jump on another  22 hour flight and go back. Until next time Uganda- I will be thinking of you with the fondest memories and a yearning heart.”  Enjoy the photos!
